Words Of Comfort

My wife has a doctors appointment tomorrow. Tomorrow's appointment has me feeling very afraid and anxious. Brittany is going to be having weekly fetal stress tests. They are going to be monitoring the heart rate of our baby because it has slowed down lately. The heart rate should be between 140-160 and as of now it is 133. It has continued to get lower at every appointment. We are praying that the heart rate will rise and that everything is fine. We ask for your prayers as well.

Tonight I was reading Psalm 34 and verse 4 calmed my heart. I don't know if you are out there and you are dealing with fear as well, but if you are I pray that this verse speaks peace to you as it does me.

Psalm 34:4
"I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears."

I also am comforted by this verse

John 14:27
"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."

There are so many other verses that are great, but these are two that I wanted to share now. It is cool how God always speaks to you through his word.

The Next Big Thing

This is one big dude. I mean, can you imagine fighting this guy? For those of you that used to play Nintendo, you will remember the game Mike Tyson's Punch Out. The character would play was a little up and coming boxer named Lil' Mac. In fact the little guy in this picture reminds me of Lil' Mac. During the game, when you would punch the opposition in the head, you would have to jump up to do so. It appears this guy may have had to do the same thing.

This is the newest and biggest boxer, who comes to us from Russia. He is 7 ft. tall and weighs in at around 335 pounds. You can read about him here. http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-boxer27jan27,0,4797801.story?coll=la-home-headlines

He beat John Ruiz for the WBA heavyweight championship in December. This is a big man. If anyone wants to take him on, I will set it up.

For All You Musicians

I have been listening to a lot of Jamie Cullum lately. He is an incredible musician, and very gifted on the piano. I encourage you to all check out his music. His newest album is "Catching Tales".

The guy in this clip has some skills on the keys as well. This clip comes to me from my friend Kelly. I wanted to share it with all of you.

Baby Update

I am sure some of you are getting sick of my baby updates, but you are going to have to deal with it. The days keep getting closer until the due date, and Brittany are I are so excited we can hardly take it. In fact we are down to 52 days until the due date, so it could be even sooner than that.

Here is an update as to what has been going on with the baby.

The baby's toenails are now fully formed. If the baby is a boy, his testes are still making their descent. Because of the rapid brain growth of the last few weeks, the circumference of our the baby's head has increased by about 3/8 inch. The developing brain pushes outward on the skull, but it also folds upon itself to create more of the convolutions.

The baby is continuing to grow at an amazing rate. Right now, it should measure around a foot long and weigh about 3-3.75 pounds. That is the equivalent of 7 cups of water. By the time this week ends, our baby will have added almost 3/8 inch to its length.

The volume of amniotic fluid has reached its maximum by now. As the baby grows, there will be less fluid and more baby an so considerable movement from within is obvious. Our baby must be a wild one because it is always moving like crazy. At this stage the baby will also sometimes practice sucking by sucking their thumbs or fingers.

It is all so cool, and a true miracle of God. Brittany and I wait with great anticipation. We will keep you updated.

Triumph vs Star Wars Geeks

I am a huge Star Wars fan. However, I do have a problem with the people that dress up as their favorite characters, and hang out in the movie line days before the opening. I am very confused by the amount of adults that dress up as if they are Jedi or something. To me it is like a grown man that wears a boy scout uniform. It is all very disturbing.

Here is a great clip of Triumph confronting some Star Wars geeks.
He is just killing them.
Enjoy!

Divisional Playoffs

Okay, so I was only .500 on my predictions for the Wild Card Weekend. However, I am feeling good about my predictions for the Divisional Playoffs. Here they are.

Washington at Seattle

Washington has been riding a good winning streak, but this week it will come to an end. Seattle has played great all year long, and I believe they will be too much for Washington. Clinton Portis may break some long runs, but all of his outrageous costumes, won't get him anywhere this week. Look for Hasselbeck to lead his team on. Seattle wins.

Seattle 28 Washington 17

New England at Denver

Yeah, I know it's New England, but this year I think Denver will put an end to their playoff slump. Tom Brady is a great quarterback, but I look for Denver to put some heat on him, and force him to make plays he doesn't want to make. I look for Denver to pound it down New England's throat with the run. Get ready to hear the names of Anderson and Bell all game. It's going to be a great game and I think it will come down to the wire. Denver wins.

Denver 31 New England 28

Pittsburgh at Indianapolis

I think the Steelers are in trouble here. Indianapolis comes out wanting to get an emotional win for their coach. I look for Indy to be very focused and well rested coming into this game. Manning will have a big day, and I look for Harrison to get at least 2 touchdowns. After Indy has taken a significant lead, they will begin to just grind it out with James. Could be a long day for Pittsburgh.

Indianapolis 42 Pittsburgh 10

Carolina at Chicago

I look for this game to be a low scoring game. The Bears defense will dominate the game, and may even put a TD up on the board. Steve Smith may have a couple big plays for Carolina, but I think the Bears defense is not going to give them enough time to get the ball down field. "Da Bears" fans will be pumped for their first home playoff game in a few years, and will give the Bears that extra edge. Bears move on.

Chicago 21 Carolina 10

Super Bowl Pool

I am setting up a Super Bowl square pool. It should be a lot of fun. It is a great way to keep the Super Bowl exciting for everyone. Even if the Super Bowl is a blow out, this will keep you interested. It is $10 per square to be involved and you have the chance to win big money. Who can beat that? You can buy as many squares as you would like, as long as there are squares left. As of right now, we have a lot of squares for sale.

Please look at the link below to see how this pool will be set up. There will be some differences, but our pool will be pretty much the same.

The prizes will go like this...

3rd Quarter-$200

I look forward to having you join the pool. Tell your friends.

Football Predictions and News

Well, it appears I don't know that much about football. I went 2 for 4 with my Wild Card Weekend predictions. The NY Giants did not show up to play and got shut out. Washington pulled out the victory to move on in the playoffs to take on a tough Seattle team. New England looks ready to do battle with Denver, and Pittsburgh went in and got the win like I thought they would.
Even though I predicted the Steelers to win, I did want the Bengals to get the victory. I am a Denver Bronco fan, and really did not want to play New England. I think the Broncos can win, but I think it will be a very tough game. Cincnnati would have been an easier game, especially now that Carson Palmer is out with a torn MCL and ACL.

As for other football news. How about our great citizen Marcus Vick? Are you kidding me? This guy must think that because his older brother is Michael Vick that he can do whatever he wants. It is a shame. Here is a very talented athlete who is blowing it, because his ego is too big and his brain must be too small. Here is a suggestion Marcus. Put the guns away, keep your mouth shut, and just move on. We will see you on draft day when you go in the late rounds. Nobody cares about you.

Wild Card Weekend

They're back! That is right the NFL playoffs are upon us. This one of my favorite times of the year in the world of sports. So sit back, grab yourself some buffalo wings or a bag of chips, and your beverage of choice and get ready for some football.

Here are my predictions for this weekend's games.

Washington at Tampa Bay
Any time you are playing at home you've a got a better shot. I think Tampa Bay is healthier right now, and that Clinton Portis is going to have a hard time running. I do see Brunell and Moss having a few big plays that will have them close, but in the end Tampa Bay will win.
Tampa Bay 24 Washington 17

Jacksonville at New England
The Patriots have looked very tough lately. Their team has peaked at the right time and looks to be rolling into the playoffs. Corey Dillon is rested, and the Patriots have too much playoff experience. Byron Leftwich will be returning, but I think he will be rusty, and the ankle may not hold up under the Patriots defense. I see a blowout.
New England 34 Jacksonville 10

Carolina at NY Giants
This game could be interesting. Carolina's Steve Smith has lit people up all year long, and the Giants don't have that great of pass defense. Tiki Barber has had the season of his life, and I don't see that stopping this week. The only thing that I am interested to see, is how Eli Manning holds up in his first playoff game. If he handles the pressure well, I think it will be close. I am giving the edge to New York only because they are at home.
NY Giants 27 Carolina 24

Pittsburgh at Cincinnati
To me this is the most exciting game of the weekend. Cincinnati playing in their first playoff game in ages should be jacked up and ready to play. I look for Chad Johnson and his golden teeth to make some big plays and Carson Palmer to throw for at least 250-300 yards. However, I think Pittsburgh is going to go in to Cincy and get the win. I look for the Steelers to play some tough nosed football. I think the running game of the Steelers will pound away at the Bengals, and Big Ben is going to lead his team on in the playoffs.
Pittsburgh 24 Cincinnati 21

Lou Rawls Has Died

Today is a sad day for me. Lou Rawls has died. http://music.msn.com/music/article.aspx?news=211388&GT1=7653

I can remember driving around in my mom's big white Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme as a little boy. I can still see the big black 8 track tape sticking out of the dashboard as the music of Lou Rawls surrounded me. I can still see my mom grooving to the music as she sung along.

As a boy I was introduced to a lot of great R&B/Soul artists, and Lou Rawls was at the top of the list. I can remember how rich and smooth his voice sounded, and how today I still love to listen to his music.

As the years go by and more the artists I grew up listening to leave us, it feels as though a part of my childhood goes with them.

Thanks for the tunes Lou.

Generic Question

Today I really can't think of much to write about today so I am going to pose a generic question that we have all talked about one time in our life.

So here it goes...

Imagine that you are to be placed on an island for one year. What 3 cd's would you take with you and why?

Lazy Sunday

I am a huge fan of C.S. Lewis. Growing up I read the Chronicles of Narnia and I loved it. I remember how I was captivated by the first book-"The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe". I still have not seen the movie, but I plan on seeing it soon. I have heard great reviews about the movie.

However, with no disrespect to C.S. Lewis; I did want to post this clip. I am sure some people will not find it to be funny, but lighten up. This is from SNL and it kills me. Please watch it. I know you will enjoy it.

Peace, and I'm out.
