Losing Weight

The older I get, the harder it is to lose weight. So when trying to lose weight I have to take drastic measures. One drastic measure I am taking is that I am trying to give up soda. For those of you that know me, you know how hard that will be. I love soda. I love Coke. I love Mt. Dew. They are a part of me.

I have cut back on soda this week, and I am getting headaches. It sucks. Not to mention the worst part. I am trying to cut back slowly so I don't die. I usually drink 4 cans of soda a day. Now I am drinking one regular Coke maybe, and one Diet Coke in the morning. The Diet Coke is the worst part of it. I hate Diet pop. However, to lose weight I have to make that choice.

My goal is to lose 10 pounds this month.

Tim,
10 lbs in a month...that is ridiculous!!!!! Just be happy with yourself, and be healthy! That is more important than how much you weigh.:) Anyways...well, that is all that I have to say about that!

Hey. I feel your pain. Really I do. I gave up soda last May. I thought I was having migraines I was going through such caffeine withdrawl because I went cold turkey. I had my last soda and knew I couldnt go back. I havent had soda in almost a year now. I have faith in you. Im here if you ever need to vent on your lack of soda ;) Its worth it though. Since I gave it up, Ive lost almost 30 pounds, granted, I found teh gym, but I know the lack of soda helped. Anyways. Good luck!!!

I heard that if you start smoking (like two packs a day) you'll start dropping weight...

No seriously, if you cut the pop/soda, and any other empty calorie sources (such as snacks at the office, or excessive meal portions), you'll be half way there. REGULAR, SUBSTANTIAL exercise is the other half of the equation.

The regularity of the exercise is more important than the intensity when you are starting out. That means that two super-intense workouts during the week are not worth the same as 5-6 less-intense workouts. Also, you’ll want to shoot for duration rather than intensity when you are starting a cardio regimen. Budget the time for your workout, and then use the full amount.

If you set your goal to run a mile each day, eventually you’ll be able to run a mile in about 6 to 8 minutes. However, if you go for duration, then your distance will increase as you get more and more in shape. All the while, the time involved in working out is the same. You’re setting aside a fixed amount of time, and it doesn’t matter how far you go, or if you are biking of running, just as long as you are busy for the duration.

Good luck!

Honestly, go cold turkey. I was sick for a week or so and knew soda was dehydrating and would only keep me sick longer. So I sucked down gatorade all week. After a week, I don't crave it anymore. Maybe to go a little more slowly, start by drinking caffeine free...you gotta get rid of the caffeine addiction first. The headaches are worth it...they really are (or something like that).
